7 Helpful Home Projects for the Spring

After a harsh winter season that could have caused some damage to your home, spring would be the perfect time to give your home that much-needed makeover. As the weather starts to warm and the mood brightens, now is the perfect time to return to any home improvements you postponed for the winter. Here are worthy projects that you can do for your home:

1. Spring Clean Your Entire House

Springtime is the best time to approach your home room by room and remove the clutter. Cleaning your home all in one day can be overwhelming, so it would be best if you designate a few minutes each day until you're done with the entire house. Make a checklist that will help you know which areas to give attention to and make the whole process more organized to divide each role amongst each member.

You can also involve your kids in helping you out, as long as you guide them through how to do it. Sort your belongings into the ones you want to keep, the ones you want to sell or donate, and the ones you will trash. You can reach out to local charities and soup kitchens or organize a yard sale to make some extra money on your old possession.

2. Do A Repaint

A good repaint should be done professionally by first scraping the older paint from the walls. The spring season has the most favorable temperatures for a repaint since it doesn't dry too quickly, thus giving it the compactness and durability required to stay longer on the walls. More so, the harsh weather conditions in the winter may have taken a toll on your home's exterior, thus more reason to do a paint touchup.

There are easier ways to scrape off the paint from the walls, but doing it on your own can be tiring and time-consuming. Therefore, it would be ideal to hire a professional painter to help do this in the least time possible. They can do a major paint job or minor detail work, all to your preference.

3. Make Sure Your AC Works

Spring and Fall are the best times to check that your central air and HVAC systems work. When it is not too hot or cold, it is easier to turn off the climate control for a few hours to clean out the filters, make sure the vents aren’t leaking, and fill or recaulk any gaps or holes in the seams of your home.

Central air ensures that only clean air circulates through your home. It also ensures that your home's temperatures are habitable for occupants. You may have overworked it over the winter season as you tried to warm up your home; thus, it is necessary to check if it's working right. Make it a routine to have a professional look at your systems at the start of every season to ensure all controls are in place and working correctly.

4. Improve Your Lawn

Your lawn requires regular maintenance to reflect the natural beauty you have around you. The dull temperatures in the winter season may have damaged the roots of the grass and other plants you may have, leading to weak plants with stunted growth.

The spring season is the best time to revitalize your lawn and those plants and do a proper boost. Here are some essential tasks you should take on for your yard:

  • Trimmed the withered and dead greenery.

  • Aerate and fertilize the soil.

  • Plant new seeds and water them as required.

Lawn services have the best expertise to help you with these tasks. You should call them early in the spring season as they quickly get busy. As you take care of your lawn, consider planting trees in strategic locations on your property. In a few years, you will be proud that you did that once they're all grown.

5. Inspect the Roof

Your roofing system should guard your home against external elements like water leaks, save energy and improve your home's exterior look. One of the simple ways to notice a damaged roof is by checking the roof during the day when under bright sun rays. If you see pinpoint sun rays showing through the roof into your home, then that's a good starting point for a repair.

Depending on the damage, you can decide to do a complete roof replacement or other repairs like replacing missing shingles, replacing cracked shingles, patching up leaks, etc. Your roofing contractor will best help determine the gravity of the situation and advise accordingly. Some of these may have been brought about by

6. Clean the Gutters

After the roofing is checked and you know that everything is in place, your gutter system should be the next job on your list. A sound gutter system should direct water into the set drainage system to prevent water damage to your home's exterior.

Clogged gutters won't let free water flow to the collection point. While they may not cause immediate problems to your home, if ignored for long, the water runoff may lead to more expensive problems like a weakened foundation.

Ensure that your gutters are correctly installed; the water should run from your roof through gutters to a central collection point or the local sewers. Regularly check the gutters for leaves and debris that may get caught, and do not forget to wear protective gloves in case any nails or sharp objects are caught in there. If the gutters are too clogged, you can call in a plumber to clear them safely and efficiently.

7. Upgrade Your Outdoor Space

Your deck should be beautiful and strong enough to accommodate your seating area in your outdoor space. Your deck can quickly become uninviting after a couple of years due to the continuous exposure to the weather. Rejuvenate it early enough once you notice deteriorated sections like cracks, loose nails, rotten wood, etc.

If you're considering a total deck replacement using wood, for example, ensure the material used to make it is strong, durable, and has a natural resistance to termites. Cedar and redwood have been used for this purpose for a long time. It would be good to add some shade with overhead structures like pergolas to block the sun with the summer coming up.

Take advantage of the delightful weather and make the necessary upgrades for your home. Write down a plan, get a budget for them all and get legit contractors to do these upgrades for you and make the spring season comfortable and relaxing like you always wanted it to.
