It is no big secret the CADdetails crew loves attending building and design industry events and tradeshows. They provide a one-of-a-kind chance to experience new, innovative and exciting products and technologies first hand, a myriad of networking and professional development opportunities, and perhaps even the opportunity to tour the host city and be inspired by some of its iconic places and spaces! With that in mind, read on to discover CADdetails’ compilation of 2015’s top 12 ‘bucket-list’ architecture and design events, from all around the world (one per month, in date order). So pack your bags and get your passports ready – we hope to see you in 2015!
1. BAU 2015
19 - 24 January, 2015, Munich, Germany
BAU proudly bills itself as the world's leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems for industrial, commercial and residential construction, as well as interior design. This year, more than 240,000 planners, designers and builders are expected to gather to meet some 2,000 exhibitors from 46 countries. The sold-out exhibition encompasses more than 1.9 million square feet of exhibit space, filling all 17 trade halls of the Messe München exhibition center – a mind boggling volume equivalent to 25 football fields!
2. Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair
3 - 7 February, 2015, Stockholm, Sweden
Scandinavian design is a well known and highly valued concept characterized by functionality, environmental sustainability and fresh, modern lines. The largest source of inspiration in this field is Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, which has attracted purchasers, architects, designers and journalists to Stockholmsmässan, Scandinavia’s largest exhibition and congress center, every February since 1951. With the fair as its natural hub, the whole city gets involved as a large number of events, showrooms and parties are organized during Stockholm Design Week. Today, the fair, which features approximately 750 companies exhibiting furniture, lighting and textile products, attracts around 40,000 visitors, from more than 60 countries around the world.
4 - 6 March, London, England
EcoBuild, the UK’s version of Greenbuild, was founded in 2004. The inaugural event was held at a brewery for a few hundred trendsetting building professionals. Today, Ecobuild is the UK's leading event for sustainable design, construction and energy with more than 44,000 “green” professionals from 120 countries and 1000 exhibitors in attendance in 2014. 2015’s event will be held at the massive ExCeL London and will feature an exciting range of interactive and innovative attractions, including free, live Building Information Modeling (BIM) training for every level. As the first live event to provide free BIM education for all, Ecobuild will help to up-skill the entire BIM chain, including architects, designers, engineers, surveyors and facilities managers, with a three-day seminar program. Evolving to meet industry demands, Ecobuild 2015 will also feature not one but two main Show Zones: Sustainable Design and Construction & Energy, as well as seven seminar streams; Green Energy, Design, Building Performance, BIM, Water, Refurbishment and Solar.
4. MosBuild 21st International Building & Interiors Exhibition
31 March – 3 April & 14 – 17 April 2015, Moscow, Russia
Established in 1995, MosBuild is the premier construction exhibition in Russia, and one of the top 5 annual exhibitions of building and decorating materials in the world. The event consists of 18 specialized exhibitions that demonstrate the full range of products, manufacturing technologies, developments and services for the building, finishing and decorating materials industry. The first week is Design & Décor Week, while the second is Building & Architecture week. The 2014 event attracted more than 129,000 visitors, and 2325 exhibitors representing 48 countries. MosBuild includes over 200 speakers and presents important discussions, major forums, educational master classes, seminars and the International Eco-Award for building and finishing materials.
5. LIGHTFAIR International
5 - 7 May 2015, New York, New York
As the world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference, LIGHTFAIR International (LFI) blends 200+ hours of world-class accredited continuing education courses with innovative products ranging from high-end design to cutting-edge technology. 6 pavilions encompassing more than 200,000 square feet of exhibit space showcase 500 of the world’s leading lighting manufacturers. The 3-day event attracts more than 25,000 lighting, architectural, design, engineering, energy, facility and industry professionals from around the world. The event also features the LFI Innovation Awards, honoring the lighting industry’s newest product designs.
15 - 17 June, Chicago, Illinois
NeoCon is the largest commercial interiors show in North America, taking place at Chicago’s iconic Merchandise Mart since 1969. Today, NeoCon remains the premier platform for connecting, learning and doing business in the industry. The three-day event attracts nearly 50,000 design professionals and showcases more than 700 leading manufacturers. With over 1 million square feet of exhibition space, the show launches thousands of new products and covers a spectrum of vertical markets including Workplace, Healthcare, Hospitality, Retail, Environmental, Government and Education. This years exhibition is complemented by first-class educational programming featuring over 100 accredited seminars, association forums, keynote presentations and special events, including guided tours throughout the historic Windy City.
7. ESBUILD- Green Architecture and Construction Materials Expo
30 Jun – 2 July 2015, Shanghai, China
Attracting a staggering 80,000 professional visitors, Asia's premier green building exhibition, ESBUILD, features the latest products and technologies with a focus on whole building energy efficiency and advanced building materials. The 2014 event featured 1031 exhibitors from China, Hong Kong, Macao, Britain, Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Russia, South Korea, Canada, Malaysia, the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Italy and more – making this green expo not only an opportunity to be inspired by sustainable design solutions, but a unique cultural experience as well!
12 - 15 August 2015, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
ARCHIDEX, launched in 2000, is Malaysia’s largest annual trade exhibition. Over the past decade and a half, the event has evolved from covering just interior design, to encompassing every segment of the architecture, design and building trade, earning itself the pivotal position as the leading gathering among South East Asia’s fraternity of architects, urban planners, interior designers, academicians, students and various industry professionals. The 2015 event, with its theme of Advancing Architecture in Asia, is anticipated to attract some 33,200 visitors from 68 countries around the world, and will feature nearly 600 exhibitors, representing companies from Australia, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Spain, Malaysia and more. In addition, the 4th annual Malaysia Eco Building and Design Exposition (ECO-B) is co-locating at Archidex, and will explore green building technologies and designs, with a focus on new sustainable materials and product innovations.
9. 100% Design
23 – 26 September 2015, London, Englan
The London Design Festival is one of the world's most important annual design events. The Festival program is made up of over 350 events and exhibitions organized by hundreds of partner organizations across the design spectrum and from around the world. The 100% Design tradeshow is held between 23-26 September and is the biggest event of the design festival, with over 30,000 visitors expected including architects, interior designers, retailers and designers. The award-winning layout of the show is defined by six sections; International Pavilions, Emerging Brands, Interiors, Office, Kitchen & Bathrooms and Eco Design & Build. First staged in 1995, the show will be celebrating its 20th edition this year.
10. SAIE International Building Exposition
14 – 17 October 2015, Bologna, Italy
The 2014 edition of the SAIE International Building Exposition boasted more than 1,400 exhibitors spread over 13 pavilions. The event was organized around 5 distinct clusters: Project, which featured technologies and digital services for the connected building; Urban Spaces; Sustainable Construction; Eco-Performing Technologies; and Construction Sites, which included equipment, machinery, systems and modern technologies for operating in the built environment. In 2015 SAIE is launching a new exhibition format, a specialist show devoted to the smart house.
18 - 20 November 2015, Washington, D.C.
Closer to home, Greenbuild is heralded as the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to the green building industry. The ideals and passion of the green building community come alive at Greenbuild, where the buzz is contagious. Greenbuild brings together green industry leaders, experts and frontline professionals dedicated to sustainable building and design. The conference features three days of inspiring speakers, invaluable networking opportunities, industry showcases, LEED workshops and tours of the host city’s greenest buildings. 12. The Buildings Show
2 - 4 December 2015, Toronto, Ontario
For the first time in 2015, the 27th Annual Construct Canada will be held concurrently with PM Expo, HomeBuilder & Renovator Expo, Concrete Canada, Construct International and IIDEXCanada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on December 2-4, 2015. All six shows combined will create The Buildings Show, which will be North America’s largest exposition, networking and educational event of the year! More than 35,000 influential buyers and decision-makers are projected to attend the show, where they will experience more than 1,600 exhibits featuring products, technologies, and services for the entire spectrum of building design, construction, retrofit, and renovation in commercial and residential construction. The 3 day event will also feature 350 seminars and demonstrations, delivering the very latest in products, technologies, best practices and applications.
