Project Highlight: Market Square - Cleveland
Architect: City of Cleveland Division of Architecture
Location: City of Cleveland
Project Year: 2011
Size: 4,000 sq ft
Market Square Park is located across the street from Cleveland’s historic West Side Market, at the intersection of West 25th Street and Lorain Avenue in Ohio City. The park site was the market’s original location. Market Square Park is a focal point of the historic neighborhood that contains Market Avenue and West 25th Street’s restaurant and retail district and is also the location of a major transit hub. The overall design focuses on harvest themes found in the region and uses those concepts to link the park to the market. The project designers and landscape architect worked to ensure that the placement of each art element within the park allows traffic to flow freely.
Completed in 2011, the project consists of approximately 4,000 s.f. of Courtstone pavers which were chosen for their strong visual and textural characteristics. The Courtstone pavers also provide a historical link to the sites original use of the Market by evoking thoughts of the sites history within the overall context of the Ohio City area.
