The initial client consultation discussed using aquatic plants to clarify the water. Although the clients were intrigued, they opted for a traditional style pool, which took a year to complete. Eight years later, we noticed a decline in water quality. It was becoming harder to maintain, and the deep end was cloudy. This traditional pool was using chemicals for water clarity. BioNova suggested adding a regeneration zone with aquatic plants for better water conditions, and they agreed! Coupled with our BF4 biofilm filter (CAD files available on our microsite), this system creates living, natural water that is a joy in which to swim.

The natural swimming pool conversion process began in 2017 and was finished in 2018. One large obstacle we faced was the site had a lower grade than what the pool would require, so we brought in over 100 tandem truckloads of fill dirt to level out the foundation for proper drainage. The site also had an undesirable western wind blowing across the pool that was solved with a screen of 8ft high stones along the patio. These natural features help accentuate the raw beauty of this space. The aquatic plants, BF4 biofilm filter, and surrounding landscape all work together to provide a nature-based solution to water clarity.
