Why Summer  Is The Time To Renovate

Many people tend to feel better overall during the summer because it’s a time of rejuvenation in nature and our lives. Plus, days are longer and we get to spend more time doing things we love. We also have the chance to open our windows and really enjoy our living space. Renovating your house can make your good mood last and boost your mind and soul.

There’s a psychological bliss associated with improving our living space. By starting a project you always dreamed of, you can mark an item off of your to-do list, which can be incredibly rewarding. If you live with a friend or significant other, the joy you both get by working together as a team and accomplishing a goal can also be incredibly fulfilling as you’ll feel like you can take on the world.

The best part about home renovations is that no project is too big or small. For instance,  installing a backyard pool can help you to relax and get exercise, which can greatly improve your mental and physical health. Or you can try a simpler task by updating the color of your interior walls with a color that automatically puts you in a better mood. If it fits your decor, consider going with blue, which naturally promotes relaxation, or green, which brings the peace of nature.

While your well-being is the priority, you can also get another perk out of renovating your home, and that’s the potential to increase your home value. If you’re interested in selling your house at some point, consider a more ambitious project, like brightening the interior by adding more windows and LED lights. Many home buyers also like the idea of a gorgeous and spacious kitchen, as we tend to be where we spend a lot of our time there. So, consider remodeling that area and making it the centerpiece of your home. Be sure to mention the updates you make in your home listing.

Planning, Costs, and Upgrades

Before you move forward with any renovations, you’ll want to do a little planning, especially when it comes to remodeling in the summer. Doing renovations during warm weather means that your project is likely to move ahead on schedule.  You also may have more flexibility to take off work during summer vacation to oversee the upgrades. However, you’ll need to realize that many homeowners do their work during this warmer season, so you may have to compete for decent contractors, and costs may be higher.

While you're thinking about cost, it’s wise to know what to expect so you can budget accordingly and afford what you need. The price may differ based on the year and what’s going on with the cost of materials and labor at that time. If you choose to remodel during the summer of 2023, there’s expected to be a shortage of materials, which makes them more expensive, so factor in that possibility. You also should take into account what renovations will work best to preserve the character of your home.

You can offset some of the costs by making some of your renovations revolve around smart technology. For instance, you may like the idea of solar panels so you rely less on the electric grid and see lower monthly utility bills. You might also swap out your dishwasher and fridge for sustainable models. Eco-friendly appliances are sleek and they can save you a ton of cash.

Great Weekend Home Renovation Projects

You can make countless renovations around your home to beautify your property while boosting your mental health. If you’re low on funds, consider some awesome projects you can do over a weekend.

An easy one is to make improvements around your bathroom, like installing eco-friendly low-flow shower heads, painting walls and cabinets, and upgrading the hardware on your sinks. A fresh and bright bathroom can instantly put you in a good mood when you use it in the morning. Another simple project that can make the most difference is adding ceiling fans to the rooms you use and maybe one over the outdoor patio.

Many homeowners choose to focus on the exterior of their home during the renovation, and there’s a ton to fix and add out there. If you don’t yet have a deck, consider having one built so you can use it to entertain guests. Add a BBQ, comfortable seating, and overhead lighting for the ultimate space.

This may also be the year you take the plunge and add a hot tub outside or a basketball hoop if that’s your thing. The more excuses to get out, the better because being in the sunlight can work wonders for your mood.

Use the ideas and tips we’ve discussed here as motivation for your special summer renovations, and you can make your home your own personal oasis. Don’t delay. Make your plans and start calling contractors now so you’re all set for the upcoming season.
