Techniques Hotel Designers Use That Will Make Your Bedroom More Luxurious

We’ve all been to a hotel where we wish we could take the fancy décor home with us. The lavish bed linen, intriguing ornaments and stylish lighting all add to the ambiance to make it feel extra special. It’s the kind of room that you could only dream of having. Well, what if you could recreate the same feeling in your bedroom? There are various techniques that hotel designers use to add a sense of luxury to the room.

Extravagant Bed Spread

Part of the feeling of staying in the hotel are the crisp sheets and immaculate bed spread waiting for you each night. It’s not difficult to create the same look in your bedroom! Egyptian cotton sheets are preferable, but any sheets that have been ironed will always give a fresh, luxurious feel. You can also spray your sheets with a soft, light fragrance such as rose oil or lavender once they’ve been pressed. If you’re feeling particularly extravagant, try some silk sheets that’ll make you want to stay in bed all day long.

Don’t forget the throw and cushions to complete the look. Choose a knitted throw or opt for a fluffy blanket to add some texture to the room. Finish with an array of pillows and cushions – just be prepared to wrestle through them every night when you actually need to get into bed.

Accentuated Features

If you’re looking to update your room rather than give it a complete hotel style makeover, try picking out some key features. Many interior designers recommend making the most of relatively ignored features by turning them into a standout piece.

A protruding wall will serve well as a feature wall, pick a classic wallpaper that won’t fall out of style anytime soon and cover only this section of the wall, leaving the rest blank. Moreover, you could even make the most of a large windowsill by creating your very own reading nook. Simply add a few cushions and a 60’s style lamp.

Choosing a Neutral Colour Palette

Boutique, luxury hotels often choose a fairly neutral colour palette to cater to everyone’s tastes. You can recreate the same vibe in your bedroom while still adding your personal touch. Neutral tones generally add a sense of calm and tranquillity to a bedroom, so try using soft beiges, browns and creamy whites as base colours. You can then build upon this with pale blue or gold decorations to bring a splash of colour to the room.

Layering Textures

Hotel suites are always pristine. What’s more, it’s always layered in a particular manner to add texture to the space. Flooring is typically wooden or tiled, with perhaps a rug adorning one side of the room for a cosy feel.

Then, there’s the curtains or blinds, depending on the style of the room. Curtains can add a classic feel to your bedroom, making it more homely than perhaps ordinary blinds. Every element in your room, with the exception of the contemporary furniture, should include a mixture of textures.

Beautiful Fresh Flowers and Other Plants

Glorious fresh flowers can instantly make the bedroom feel brighter and uplifted, a common trick used by interior designers who want to add a positive aura to the room. Not only do they make the room feel cheerier, but plenty of greenery can also improve the air quality in the room. Ensuring you’re always breathing in clean, detoxified air.

You don’t always need to include a fresh bouquet in your bedroom every week, instead focus on longer lasting houseplants that will still help you achieve the desired effect. When you do opt for fresh flowers, however, ensure they’ve got a delicate scent, such as peonies, roses and lilies.

The Perfect Lighting Balance

In a standard hotel room, there are always multiple sources of light. Aside from the main ceiling lights (which are often spotlights) there are also table lamps, floor lights and bathroom lights. Add the same logic to your bedroom and you’ll feel like you’re staying in 5-star accommodation every night.

Choose small table lamps to ensure there’s enough room for all your necessities and opt for larger floor lamps in the darkest points of your room. It’s best to pick lights where you can adjust the brightness whenever you need.

Splurge on High-Quality Candles

Beautifully scented candles can be expensive, but when you invest in high-quality, even a small candle will have a longer burn time that will last a season. For a truly luxurious smelling room, fig, citrus and floral scents work well and will have you smiling from the moment you walk into the room. Not only will a high-quality candle leave a long-lasting smell of luxury, but they also add a delicate touch to the room.
