How To Improve Your Rooms with Bespoke Furniture and Fixtures

The term bespoke means that an item is custom-made. The word implies quality and luxury, though that isn’t always the case. And the term is being used widely. For example, you can find companies advertising bespoke air filtration systems as well as bespoke business suits.

What Does It Mean When We Say Furniture or Fixtures Are Bespoke?

Bespoke fixtures are made for that home. These could be stained glass windows in the front-door, custom wrought-iron drawer handles or unique bronze light fixtures. Fixtures are fixed items. These are items like light switches, light fixtures, handles, and shelves that stay behind when you move.

Bespoke furniture is custom-made. For example, a “bespoke” table is one made custom-ordered, or a one-of-a-kind piece made by the artist. It could be a mirror surrounded by handmade stained glass or a leather couch made to one particular person’s dimensions. The term could also refer to small production runs by luxury furniture makers. These items will never be seen in the big box stores. They may be purchased online from the manufacturer or sold through high-end furniture dealers.

Note that bespoke fixtures and furniture can be any size and shape. You can ask for it to be made out of any material. The only limits are what the artisans are willing and able to do, your budget, and the laws of physics.

How Can You Improve a Room with Bespoke Fixtures?

Bespoke fixtures are made to suit the house. And these can truly make a difference in both the appearance and function of the home, as anyone who has been wowed by custom wardrobes and alcove shelving can attest. Hand carved posts are artworks in and of themselves, and this will show that you’ve invested care into the literal construction of the home. You may have to pay for special doors to suit some purpose, such as when you want a door over the lazy Susan or cabinet doors to hide the fridge. Bespoke fixtures may be more accessible than the historic water faucets and drawer handles that came in the home but still mirror the home’s original aesthetic.

How Can You Improve a Room with Bespoke Furniture?

You may need bespoke furniture to suit your needs. For example, a custom order may be necessary to get a recliner that matches the antique leather sofa in the den. However, there are many options for those who want a sofa with a bit more space. You could buy a sectional sofa that could be used to create a single long seat or several separate seats. All you have to do is rearrange it based on what you need at that moment. Modern minimalist furniture will fit into almost any décor, too. For example, floating shelves will work just as well in a mid-century home as a historic one. And untreated Ikea shelves can go in almost any room. But bespoke furniture will stand out in a room of mass-produced furniture, if it is done right, assuming that was the intent. Yet you could order bespoke furniture that mirrors popular styles while making accommodations for you. For example, extra-wide or longer than average furniture may be necessary to get furniture that truly fits you.
