Do You Know the Name of the World's Favourite Colour?
When you ask a client what colour they want to paint their bedroom walls, they may come up with an answer that involves the colours blue or green. This makes sense given that the colours are known for being casual and relaxing - two properties that are attractive for spaces such as the bedroom. What you may not realize, is that they are describing the most common colour preference of the world.
A global survey by papermakers G.F.Smith asked thousands of people from 100 countries worldwide to vote for their most loved colour. According to the survey, a bluish-green colour called Marrs Green was chosen. The teal shade (seen being made in the video above) was named after the survey participant Annie Marrs, who revealed to House Beautiful that "the colour was inspired by the landscape that surrounds me at home in Scotland and that deep green hue with a tinge of blue has always been a favourite of mine." this description that Marrs provides regarding the feelings that the colour evokes, may sound similar to one that could be given for Pantone's colour of the year.

For 2017, Pantone revealed the colour of the year as Pantone 15-0343, or "Greenery." While the colour Greenery is described by Pantone as a "fresh and zesty yellow-green shade" which differs from the "bluish-green" shade of Marrs Green, however, both have one important commonality: the colour green.
Caroline Till, the editor of Viewpoint Colour Magazine, believes that the popularity of the colour green is because "in these uncertain times, where political and social upheaval has become the norm, we crave the calming tranquility of green and its association with the reassuring certainty of nature's cycles."
Since both colours provide a sense of nature, we can expect to see it used in a lot of upcoming projects. The only question is - will designers choose the colour of the year that offers a sense of rejuvenation or will they choose the world's favourite colour that evokes the natural landscape?
