How To Integrate HVAC System Into Modern Designs

If you’ve created a beautiful, modern design for your home, but you want to integrate an HVAC system, you might find that it can have a negative impact on your décor. In this guide, we’re looking at the ways in which you can integrate your system without impacting the look of the home too much, or even tying in with your modern design.

When it is time to integrate AC units you should consult with an air conditioning contractor to see what is possible, to integrate the system.

What Is the Definition of Modern Design?

You may already have some ideas for design floating around, but what counts as modern design? What are some of the telltale signs of a modern design? Of course, everyone has their own version of a modern design, and slightly different definitions of what it entails, but all of the factors below are generally understood to be modern design staples.

Clean Straight Lines

Clean, uninterrupted lines used as part of the design give a really modern feel. This is common in kitchen and bathroom design, but can also be utilized in other rooms of the home.

If you think of the design of a modern apartment or home then you’ll probably picture something with a design including a lot of clean lines.

Use of Metal

Metal can give some homes more of an industrial feel, but there are plenty of modern designs that use metal to create a statement design. You’re likely to see a lot of steel frames and similar furniture used in modern designs, and this can make HVAC systems fit in a lot better.

Minimalism

With Mid-Century Modern Design, you’ll see a lot of very minimalist decor, without too much clutter and different designs and textiles.

Minimalist designs are popular in a lot of modern homes and apartments. They usually involve a simple color scheme and don’t have a lot of room for filling the walls and cabinets with stuff that clogs up the look of your home. Nothing too ‘busy’ should be used, and this can be difficult when it comes to integrating an HVAC system.

How to Blend HVAC Seamlessly Into Modern Designs

HVAC systems come in a lot of different designs and as they look quite industrial, this might be a better option for modern housing design. So, with this in mind, how can you blend your HVAC system into your modern look?

Using Box Frames

Box frames are a specific way to cover away from your HVAC system and they give you much more control over the look of your home. By framing and covering the unit you can choose a design that fits in much better with the home design.

Place A Piece Of Furniture In Front Of The AC Unit

Furniture shouldn’t totally block off the HVAC system and vents absolutely need to be able to facilitate airflow. It’s vitally important that you do this in a safe way, so consulting with an HVAC installer or engineer is a good idea. However, if you get the go-ahead, hiding your unit away behind a piece of furniture can be a very efficient way to ensure it isn’t on display at all.

Use A Protective Cover

Did you know that there is a large market for protective covers? These have additional benefits, as they are made to allow an engineer to get into your system if they need to, but they also hide the system itself away behind a cover that looks nicer than the default outside of the HVAC unit. You can buy these covers online, get them made for you, or if you are good at DIY it is possible that you might even be able to make your own protective cover.

Painting Your Vents

The vents will be obvious in a lot of home designs. In some industrial modern designs, this might not be the worst thing, and it can actually look pretty good. However, there are scenarios where you’d rather the vents weren’t on display. If you are able to match up the color of your vents by painting them to match the rest of the home, there’s every chance that it will be better disguised.

Choose an HVAC System That Is Easy To Hide

HVAC systems come in all different forms and designs, and one of the best things you can do is to choose a system that is easy to hide away. Something that is compact is definitely a great call, but there is also the option to find an HVAC system in a shape that is easy to hide away in an area of your home, specifically if you have somewhere in mind already.
