Bright and Cheerful Colors Bring Inspiration to Playful Minds by Unity Surfacing Systems
All of our rubber playground tiles serve a distinct, functional purpose - from pigmented tiles, to turf-top to TPV/EPDM top, as we never lose site of the positive effect a playground has on children. The inspiration it provides, the satisfaction it brings. For 36 years, we’ve based our success on the idea that putting children first is the foundation for building a better play area. And for 36 years, architects, engineers, and municipalities have depended on us for unique solutions like the ones you see here.
This public school’s motto is: “Bright is Beautiful”. This was the driving vision behind the play-yard design for this public school where the newly designed play space acts as the central hub for this small/tight school playground in New York City bringing kids together again post-pandemic.
The school building itself is influenced by the surrounding city-scapes and takes the design vocabulary from the neighboring buildings. However, the school's play yard is a different story, as it is flanked by the children’s inspiration of bright and cheerful colors, designs, and layouts that add a playful, cheerful element - greeting school staff, students, and visitors alike.
At both the main and secondary playstructures, the play yard’s self-interlocking rubber tiles echo the complimentary colors from the playground equipment. The smaller playground structure is located in the rear to keep the younger ones farther away from the busy city streets while at the same time allow for clear visibility from all directions……. especially from the steps.
Due to the rectangular size and unlimited color blending variations, Unity’s play tiles can provide designers with great flexibility in the creation or outdoor play spaces. With the staggard interlocking joints, varying patterns can be achieved using Step and Repeat bonds, running bonds and stack bond patterns.
Five different color tiles were used, mixing four different color chips within each of the five tiles creating a unique mosaic of safe impact resistant play tiles to be enjoyed by students for years to come.
